We've finished the intensive rehearsals for The Threepenny Opera... and am I glad! Everything has improved dramatically, and the cast appears to be getting on much better and I feel like people are finally starting to see how it's going to work.

I feel much more positive about it... so if you're in Melbourne and you're reading this... come see it!!

Also - had another meeting with Louisa the other day about Red Cape. She's so good at getting me motivated about it, she's so keen!! hehe. I've decided I definately want to incorporate which requires us to have a committee etc. but I think that's a better idea than just me being financially responsible for everything!!

Lou also wants to do some funky little flyers to tempt people about the arrival of a new company - at first I must admit I was a bit hesistant considering the production is a full year away. But I guess - why not? why not try and create a bit of a stir? I'm not intending to be ashamed of what we might be able to do the Red Cape.

Who knows? I might continue it on until it becomes big enough to try becoming a film production company too... revive the film musical and revive it here in australia... away from Hollywood and the memories of the studio system... YAY.

As you may or may not know, there's a Federal election coming up in Australia... and its starting to strangely feel a bit like the election in the US. There's the government in power, conservative, right-wing, allied with Pro-Family, Christian groups - and there's this enormous push to get them out of government and to get a government that is more accountable!!

I noticed yesterday a big poster announcing a group called "Musicians for Change" who are pushing to have Howard voted out. It made me curious, but it turns out there's a CD been released and everything, which I was very happy to see!

But funny compilation CDs aside, I was interested if there was a political group trying to move against the government that was based in a group of artists banding together. I could not find one, but there is a website for people who are in the Australian Arts Industry to help them make a decision about the election : www.artsvoter.com/election2004/

You'll notice that their poll has the Greens and Labor battling it out neck and neck for the majority, with Liberal Coalition down at about 5%.... if only we represented the majority of the population...

My first post... my first blog... what to say? Not much really...

I guess an idea of what its going to be about. It will
1) a cow as white as milk...
2) a cape as red as... oh, sorry... wrong list.
Ahem.
1) map the development of my new theatre company "Red Cape Productions"
2) be a place to rant about cultural/political issues I feel strongly about, cause i feel bad subjecting people to that in person, and I am a self confessed Cultural Studies geek
3) give me yet another thing to do instead of doing other stuff
4) be a place where I will probably express stuff I don't always mention to people in person, the internet is great for that.

That's about it. Hope I make for interesting reading, eventually anyway, even if not right now.
